Crossing Gross and Chli Kärpf
The Gross Kärpf (älter spelling Gross Chärpf) lies north of the main ridge of the Glarus Alps and thus offers an excellent view of glaciated 3000-metre peaks such as Tödi and Clariden. On the north-west side of the Gross Kärpf is a glacier remnant. Due to the ice recession, rock falls occur again and again on this side. The normal route via the south flank is fortunately not affected by this and offers an enjoyable scramble in solid rock (T5 II). The Chli Kärpf (small Kärpf) can be reached via an alpine path marked in blue and white (T4). You also have to climb a little on this trail, but in contrast to its big brother, there are chains and treads to make it easier. If you want to use public transport to shorten the tour, you have a time window of 9 hours for this traverse. If you want to take it easy, you can make a stop at the beautifully located Leglerhütte.
